NIALL CONNOLLY RETURNS

‘There’s So Much More to See’ explores themes of division, love, death, grief, gratitude and resistance, all the while attempting to move past fruitless anger towards, what Nick Lowe so memorably called, Peace Love and Understanding. Spanning 11 songs in under 37  minutes, Connolly’s 10th studio album is a balm for troubled times. A master storyteller, he has consistently tapped into the emotional Zeitgeist with soul-punching honesty, dark humor, infectious melodies and mountains of touring. Twenty five years since his debut, this is his best work yet. 

A songwriter’s songwriter, Connolly is hugely respected in the indie folk scene in New York. He is the founder of Big City Folk, a collective that has curated hundreds of events throughout the city and state. Guest artists over the years include Anais Mitchell, Mick Flannery, Lucius, Susan O’Neill, Mundy, and Lana del Rey (before she went by that name). 

 In the spring of 2001, inspired by a small advert in the Irish Examiner, Connolly hatched an unusual plan. He signed up to be a paid subject at a medical research trial at Shandon Clinic in Cork city. Afterwards he took his earnings to the local Credit Union and explained, “I have 500 pounds and a plan. Can I have 3000 pounds? ” 

His debut album ‘Songs from a Corner’ was the result of that plan. It sold well enough to inspire new plans. ‘As tomorrow creeps from the east’ ( 2003) and ‘The Future Tense’ ( 2007) followed before Connolly relocated to the US where he was recognized by no less of a musical authority than the US government, as an, ‘Alien of Extraordinary Ability’. 

In the almost 20 years since then, he has made 7 more studio albums and continued to carve out a living as an independent musician in one of the world's most musical cities.

Connolly has played over 4,000 gigs all over Europe and US. He has opened for Glen Hansard, Lisa Hannigan, Lucius, The Frank and Walters, Lisa O’Neill, Damien Dempsey, The Wonder Stuff, Evan Dando, Jeffrey Martin and many more. 

Produced by multi instrumentalist Len Monachello at Soundtronics, New York, ‘There’s So Much More to See’  features his long term NYC band comprising Len Monachello, Chris Foley, Brandon Wilde, Dennis Cronin, E.W. Harris as well as guests Holly Laessig ( Lucius, Joni Mitchell), Moushumi Chitre ( Alara), Kenneth Griffin ( Rollerskate Skinny, August Wells) and  MJ McCarthy ( Album Club, Zoey Van Goey, Elephant) and Warren Malone. 

‘There’s So Much More to See’ was mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty. O’Flaherty has since won a Grammy for his work with Kendrick Lamar. O’Flaherty and Connolly have worked together on/ off since Connolly’s 2001 debut.

We are back with another MAC-N-CHEESE and ROSÉ NIGHT MUSIC SERIES at The Red Door. We are thrilled to host E.W. Harris. This will be his first time playing the Red Door.
The cost is 5,000 HUF per person. All proceeds go to the artist. CASH I cannot take CREDIT CARDS.
E.W. will play two sets. I will make, depending on how many respond, a ton of my famous Mac-N-Cheese (dare I say legendary?), and there will be a case of cold Rosé . Bring your own too, so we don't run out. Last time was a blast.
